The Value Chain

The Value Chain

We measure the total environmental impact of the products from cradle to grave, based on Life Cycle Assessments (LCA).

This helps us to focus attention on the product related environmental issues such as forestry, production, light weighting, recycling, board waste in production plus filling and final disposal.

LCA Nordic Wine Comparative

Systembolaget, Sweden and Vinmonopolet, Norway decided to assess various wine packaging solutions in order to identify their main impacts on the environment. Package manufacturers for each package option studied were invited to participate. In addition to Systembolaget and Vinmonopolet, three package manufacturers (Elopak, Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box/Vitop and Tetra Pak) and one importer (Oenoforos) decided to join the study.

This study provides reliable environmental data on the considered packaging systems. The data and results are specific to these products, to the Nordic market and to the transportation conditions between the winery locations and the packaging locations.

The comparative environmental assessment of the wine packaging systems is performed through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
