Goals and Ambitions

Goals and Ambitions

Unlike many companies, Elopak has given a very firm and accurate short-term commitment with regard to environmental improvements: To reduce carbon emissions from own operations by 15 percent within only two years. With 2008 as the baseline year, this goal will be achieved by the end of 2010.

But our real commitment goes beyond just a figure. Our wider commitment is to achieve continuous environmental improvements year on year and to assume a leadership role within our industry. As well as being financially attractive, this wider commitment is rooted in a moral obligation to ensure that our business and our products are truly sustainable, as well as in a deep conviction that environmental leadership will also determine who will survive in business and who will not.

In the short-term, the focus will be on reducing Elopak’s energy consumption, as energy is the largest contributor to our carbon emissions. Our real commitment goes beyond just a figure. Our wider commitment is to achieve continuous environmental improvements year on year and to assume a leadership role within our industry. However, in the longer term all aspects of our operation and our products’ life cycle will be addressed.

We believe that successful environmental improvements require the engagement of the entire organisation. We also believe that the best companies are open to input from outside; that they actively listen to their stakeholders’ views and that they actively seek to identify and implement best practice. Lastly, we believe that ambitious achievements require clear goals, accurate measurement and transparent reporting. This means that a structured and systemic approach is necessary over time. Although by and large the focus in 2008 has been to establish a baseline for measurement and further planning, we have also focused on establishing basic principles, systems and structures for future environmental improvements.
