Walking on the wild side for climate change
In 2008 Elopak signed a cooperation agreement with WWF Norway. In so doing, Elopak pledged to the world that it would reach the target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by end 2010. In 2008, Elopak became the first Norwegian industrial group to be named a WWF Climate Saver. Climate Savers is the WWF action plan to partner leading corporations with ambitious targets to voluntarily reduce emissions.
These companies which include The Coca-Cola Company, Nike Inc, Sony, Nokia and Elopak will collectively cut carbon emissions by some 14 million tons annually – the equivalent of taking more than 3 million cars off the road every year. By increasing efficiency, Climate Savers companies are saving hundreds of millions of dollars, further proving that protecting the environment makes good business sense. This is Elopak’s first major partnership programme, and it brings many opportunities including helping secure biodiversity and supporting the WWF’s fight against illegal logging. Through the partnership, the WWF educates Elopak employees with a variety of training programmes and activities, and it provides the global packaging industry with valuable strategic advice on sustainability issues.
