Elopak’s Board Upgrade Project in final Stages
07/14/2010
Following the 50 million Euro upgrade at its main board supplier StoraEnso in Finland, Elopak is in the final stages of a complete transfer to premium quality board for customers.
The key objective of this total overhaul on board supplies is to provide customers with a continuous supply of premium quality board across the whole portfilio of Elopak’s beverage cartons.
Dr. Tom Egenes, Elopak’s Specialist Director Strategic Purchasing says, “The upgrade provides customers with premium quality board with better stability, improved printability on a smoother surface and less board weight per square meter. The benefits of the new board also provide a reduced CO2 footprint and savings on environmental fees. These key qualities in addition to high standards of board strength and stiffness are now benefitting the majority of our customer base in Europe and the CIS.”
Elopak has now supplied in excess of two billion blanks of the new grades with a 100% delivery service achieved. “Over 300 employees have been involved across production, technical, planning, quality development and the central units including BBS. Special teams, in addition to the core project team, include an aseptic, a fresh, a quality and a production team have all completed a very tight schedule of activities plus extensive testing and this has resulted in every stage and element being delivered 100% on time,” explains Tom Egenes.
