Sustainability in focus for Gläserne Molkerei

Germany’s leading organic dairy, Gläserne Molkerei GmbH has relaunched a range of organic milks including two of their own brand products in Pure-Pak® Sense cartons. Elotalk spoke with the dairy’s managing director, Klaus Frericks about how the Pure-Pak® Sense carton supports the dairy’s focus on sustainable production and provides a key commercial tool on-shelf.

We wanted to change the packaging design for the Gläserne Molkerei bio-hay milk and the Gläserne Molkerei Bio-Premium milk,” explains Klaus Frericks. “Our packaging partner Elopak provided a new, improved pack with the Pure-Pak® Sense carton which delivers several benefits.

“As a pure organic dairy, sustainable production is important to us. Thanks to the special folding technique, the Pure-Pak® Sense carton allows the milk to be emptied better and the carton can be folded easily enabling space-saving during recycling collection,” says Klaus. “With this ability, the new cartons help counter food waste and reduce waste volume.

“We also appreciate the advantages of the better grip of the Pure-Pak® Sense carton and the drip-free pouring of the milk,” continues Klaus. “In addition, the corner panel creates a stronger shelf appeal, and we have integrated the corner panel into our pack design to maximise impact. Indeed, the shape of the carton creates shelf stand out from many competing products, and therefore the Pure-Pak® Sense carton contributes to a better brand perception.”

Under its brand Gläserne Molkerei, the dairy has relaunched its fresh milk products into two fat grades, also packaged in Pure-Pak® Sense cartons. This includes organic whole milk with fat content of 1.5% and 3.8% and also organic hay milk (1.5% and 3.8%). “Here, Gläserne Molkerei has a unique product on the market with hay milk,” explains Klaus. “Hay milk is traditionally produced and not homogenized. Due to the very gentle processing, all valuable ingredients of the hay milk are preserved as much as possible. Also, the milk retains its natural fat structure, which is reflected in a full-bodied taste.”

Organic hay milk is produced by the most traditional and natural methods of milk production. It is sourced only from certified organic farms where cows graze during the summer months, feeding mainly on grass and herbs – and in winter cows are fed on hay. The aromatic ingredients of the grasses and herbs ensure the good taste and naturalness of the hay milk. As the first German organic dairy, Gläserne Molkerei is able to use the EU label “garantiert traditionelle Spezialität” (Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) for its hay milk.
