Our beverage cartons are naturally circular in two key ways
They are made from renewable, sustainably sourced materials, meaning materials that can naturally replenish over time. And they are recyclable and can be turned into new products. Circularity is proven by the natural renewability of our cartons, and the fact they are fully recyclable and can be turned into new products, creating further value.
What does a ‘circular economy’ mean for Elopak?
Our planet’s scarce resources are approaching physical and ecological limits. We need to do more with less resources and ensure that these resources are sustainably sourced. That is why we only source paperboard from responsibly managed and controlled forests. In addition, that is why we offer renewable polymers in our cartons based on tall-oil from the forest, rather than petroleum-based polymers. This is our contribution to a more circular economy and to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This ensures low carbon packaging and resources for future generations.
Renewable materials are a key part of a low-carbon circular economy. A renewable resource is a natural resource that can be regrown with the passage of time, such as trees and plants. When sourced responsibly, renewable resources are sustainable.
Beverage cartons protect the food inside, but they don’t just stop being useful at the ‘end’ of their life. They can gain a new lease of life when collected and recycled into new products. Elopak strongly promotes beverage carton recycling, which turns valuable resources into useful secondary materials. Thereby ensuring resource-efficiency and more circular economy. In this way, we are keeping materials in the loop as long as possible, minimizing our impact on the environment.
Pure-Pak® Sense reduces food waste
One of the key elements of circular economy thinking is ‘designing-out waste’ right at the beginning of the product inception phase. That’s what the Pure- Pak® Sense carton is all about. By having ‘easy-to-fold’ lines which make it easier to squeeze out more of the product remnants, we can reduce food waste. In addition, the folded cartons reduce waste volume.
